Follow the wildebeest through the Serengeti month by month, from calving in Ndutu to river crossings in the north.

January to March: southern Serengeti and Ndutu
The herds graze the short-grass plains and give birth. Lions, cheetahs and hyenas hunt the calves daily.

April to May: moving north-west
As the rains peak the herds move through the central Serengeti and the Moru Kopjes toward the western corridor.

June and July: Grumeti River
Herds mass and cross the Grumeti River in the western Serengeti, with crocodiles waiting at the banks.

July to October: northern Serengeti and Mara River
The most famous crossings happen as herds move between Tanzania and Kenya. Staying near Kogatende gives the best access.

November to December: heading south
The herds follow the short rains back to the southern plains, completing the loop.

Important note
The migration follows rainfall, not a calendar. Timings are typical but can shift by weeks. Our guides track the herds daily and adjust your route.
