Tour Plan
Begin your adventure with an early morning drive from Arusha to Momella Gate, the entrance to Arusha National Park. After registration, start trekking through lush tropical rainforest, where towering trees, moss-covered trunks, and vibrant ferns create a dense green canopy.
Along the trail, you may spot colobus monkeys, bushbucks, giraffes, and colorful bird species while enjoying the sounds of flowing streams and waterfalls. The gentle ascent leads to Miriakamba Hut, nestled within the forest, where you can relax, enjoy a warm meal, and prepare for the days ahead.
Overnight: Miriakamba Hut
After breakfast, ascend through higher montane forest and bamboo zones, gradually transitioning into open moorland and volcanic terrain. The trail offers spectacular views of the crater, surrounding valleys, and wildlife roaming below.
Pause for lunch among giant lobelias and groundsels before continuing to Saddle Hut, located between the main summit and Little Meru. Spend the afternoon resting and acclimatizing, exploring the volcanic surroundings, and enjoying a breathtaking sunset over Mount Kilimanjaro and the plains below.
Overnight: Saddle Hut
Begin the summit attempt around midnight, climbing steadily along rocky ridges under a star-filled sky. Reach Mount Meru Summit (4,562 m) at sunrise, where you are rewarded with panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Great Rift Valley, and the expansive Arusha plains—an unforgettable moment of triumph.
After celebrating at the summit, descend carefully back to Saddle Hut and continue down to Miriakamba Hut for a well-earned breakfast. Complete the descent through forest trails to Momella Gate, where a transfer returns you to Arusha, marking the end of an exhilarating and scenic mountain adventure.
