The best time to hike Mount Ol Doinyo Lengai is during the dry seasons, when conditions are safer and visibility is better:
June to October: Cooler temperatures, clear skies, and more stable footing make this the ideal hiking period.
January to February: Another good window with warmer temperatures and relatively dry conditions, often combined with Lake Natron flamingo experiences.
March to May (long rains) and November to December (short rains). Trails become extremely slippery due to loose ash mixed with rain, making the climb dangerous.
Because of extreme daytime heat, the climb is typically done at night, starting around midnight and reaching the summit at sunrise.
