Mount Ol Doinyo Lengai

Ol Doinyo Lengai, known as the “Mountain of God”, is an active volcano located in northern Tanzania near Lake Natron. Revered by the Maasai, it is the only active carbonatite volcano in the world, producing unique black lava and steaming vents. Towering over the surrounding Rift Valley plains, it creates a striking landscape that blends volcanic formations, alkaline lakes, and arid savannahs.

The area around Ol Doinyo Lengai is rich in wildlife, including flamingos at nearby Lake Natron, zebras, elephants, and antelope species. Adventurous travelers can trek to its summit to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Great Rift Valley and the surrounding volcanic cones, while the surrounding region offers opportunities for cultural visits to Maasai villages.
